The Tamar Valley Tourism Association (TAVATA) was formed in 2001 to encourage and promote quality tourism in the area. It is a not-for-profit organisation and the membership includes all businesses with an interest in tourism, including local food providers, markets and shops, and business organisations who work with the tourism industry. Our holiday accommodation members look after 75,000 visitors to the Tamar Valley every year, and they are often the first people holiday-makers ask when they want advice on where to go for days out, places to eat and drink and so forth.
We have strong links with the Tamar Valley AONB, regional tourism associations and local government agencies, and so are able to feed back news to members about current initiatives, developments and events throughout the area on a regular basis. We also run regular networking events, from cream teas to visits to houses of historic interest to training events, where members can find out more about the Valley and discover services provided by other members.
Membership costs just £50 for a year from 1st January to 31st December and includes the following:
Inclusion in this comprehensive website, which was redeveloped in 2013/14, and which performs very well in the search engines. It can display the following information :

Joint Launceston TIC Membership
If you are also a member of Launceston Tourist Information Office, we are able to offer a combined, discounted membership of £85 for the two.
Members with an additional, related business operating at the same address (a hotel with a restaurant, for example), can take an extra website entry for the reduced rate of £20.
Members can login with a username and password to amend their own content. The site will also show website visits and clickthroughs to your own site, but this is still under development as the site has just been relaunched.

We put cards supplied by COAST in all our bathrooms to encourage guests to reuse towels and we refer them all to www.welovethetamarvalley.co.uk to get ideas of what to do while they are staying with us”.
Catherine and Jim Walker (www.meadowoodbandb.wordpress.com) says “We belong to TAVATA because we enjoy the sense of belonging. Running a small business can be lonely and stressful. It is good to regularly get together with other people who are experiencing similar challenges. Over the years we have been able to share our thoughts and concerns and hear those from others which has encouraged, informed and warned us of events, legislation or personal issues. Some while back, a TAVATA member suggested we cut food miles by serving apple juice instead of orange juice in our B&B. This idea made sense, as we grow and press our own apples and supports our other initiatives to be environmentally aware such as solar panels, wood burner and composting”.
